Residential Wind Turbine

Residential Wind TurbineShould You Buy A Residential Wind Turbine?

Maybe you’ve seen them as you were driving through the industrial areas of town: a field full of those thin windmill-like structures with the propellers, spinning slowly around.  You might not have even realized what they were.  Most people in this country can recognize a solar panel easily, but not everybody is familiar with wind turbines.  Wind energy is a great energy source.  Today there are many companies with great energy needs that are met using only wind energy, so clearly it’s a good option.  Is it practical, though, to use a residential wind turbine to provide power for a home?

Wind energy is one of the best energy sources in use today.  Wind costs nothing to use.  It’s there regardless of whether we make use of it, so why not just use that to our advantage?  On one hand, some people may be turned off by the idea of a giant windmill in their backyard taking up space.  Even so, the benefits are too great to ignore.  In some cases, a single turbine, properly powered, is enough to power an entire home.  This effectively gives a home the opportunity to go off the grid and be completely self powered.  You can also use a residential wind turbine to power a home or cabin in a location the electric company doesn’t service.

Wind energy hasn’t been heavily adopted in homes to date.  Solar power is much more commonly used in residential areas.  It’s hard to say whether this is because people just don’t understand it as an option or they think that other options are better.  In the end, though, wind turbines actually offer many benefits that other methods don’t.   A residential wind turbine also wouldn’t have to have a southern exposure or be installed on the roof, allowing for more installation options and allowing existing homes that aren’t easily solar compatible to take advantage of renewable energy.  It may be hard to visualize having one, since residential wind turbines are so uncommon.  But the benefits are easy to understand.

For home use purposes, a wind turbine is actually less expensive on average to install new than solar panels.  There is a lot of money to be saved by using one as well.  Adoption has been slow, as wind turbines are more obvious and stand out more on a property than solar panels do on a rooftop.  Also, because they’re less common, they’re also less often recognized as an option.  Things are starting to change now, with the knowledge spreading that you can build your own residential wind turbine and save money.  Wind turbines are increasingly popular in the green scene and are being promoted as the best residential energy option by many proponents.

The residential wind turbine market is growing, and the benefits of using one are great.  Options are now available for home owners to save a considerable amount of money on the initial cost of converting to wind energy by doing it themselves.  If you want to make a difference and save money at the same time, a residential wind turbine is a great way to do so.
